Die without a what?
Not only is this song one of my most favorite summer songs, it's also one of my favorite all-time songs, thanks to my cousin, Randon. (pictured above, and aren't his little guy's dimples to die for? so cute!)
Shortly after I graduated from BYU I ordered an upgraded stereo for my car and had it installed. Nice little present for myself and first big purchase.
And let me just say, that first purchase after college is very significant! So exciting to actually have some cash to spend on something fun after years of scrimping and saving. It was a glorious moment.
I specifically wanted something that would pump out a little bit more bass, and my new stereo was just the ticket.
I loved driving around at dusk with the windows rolled down and this song playing; the bass in it is so soothing, it's a great kick back and relax summer night song. Now I know what you're thinking....I was NOT playing this loud so that everyone at the intersection could hear my tunes! Not my style. But, when the windows were rolled up or I was in the driveway, the volume cranked up significantly.
But anyway, because "Die Without You" by PM Dawn was one of my favorites it eventually ended up on a CD of favorites that was playing at Lake Powell.
We were sitting at the table, probalby playing Rummy. Afterall, what else is there to do at the lake inbetween floating sessions? Randon was sitting across the table from me. And we were singing along to this song when Randon chimed in at the chorus saying "Die without a shoe....."
He kept saying it and I thought he was just being funny. But it turned out that was really what he thought the song said...."Die without a shoe."
We got a good laugh out of that one. When I hear this song now, I think of two things.
1. I think of warm summer nights enjoying good tunes.
2. I think of Randon, and what a great cousin and friend he is and without a doubt, I now sing...
Die without a shoe...
almost every time.
