I locked myself out of the house today.
It was nearly the most perfect day ever. We got up, got the work done around the house and then Thomas took Aiden to a birthday party. Then, they spent the day out doing Daddy and son things so that I could have the day to just do whatever I wanted!
It was the most perfect Mother's Day gift ever.
After doing the grocery shopping I came home and wanted to quickly put them away and then water the garden so that I could spend the rest of the afternoon sewing. I stepped outside to water the garden and when I tried to get back in the house the door was locked. And so was the front door and all the windows.
And of course, there was my phone sitting on the kitchen counter. The neighbors were gone...I had no way to get in touch wtih Thomas. Great. Now what?
It was later in the afternoon; Thomas and Aiden had been gone for over five hours. I thought for sure they would be home soon. So I sat there on the porch and waited. And waited and waited.
When you have nothing to do but sit...with no distractions whatsoever, it's amazing what you can think about. Such as:
- How come some airplanes that fly overhead are really loud and others are very quiet
- How long is it going to take for my trailing flowers to spill out over the containers and look absolutely gorgeous
- When is Thomas going to be home..what is he doing right now
- How do those squirrels know how to walk across the power line like that? Amazing!
- It's amazing how many beautiful things there are in this world when you slow down and just observe and listen. I could hear all kinds of birds and bugs buzzing around me
- I can hear my phone ringing inside the house. It's Thomas. I wonder what he wants. Wish I could get to it.
- What are we going to do for dinner?
- Kara is going to be staying with us this week. Better think of some fun things to do to keep her and Aiden entertained.
- Stupid squirrel! It's digging in my garden. Get out!
- Is it my turn to teach the lesson in nursery tomorrow?
- Where is Thomas!?! It's getting cold.
Finally, after two and a half hours Thomas made it home and let me in the house. I didn't have any time to sew, but I did enjoy the afternoon just sitting and thinking and pondering life and what I'm doing to make the most of it.

I know I have mentioned this before, but I am so blessed to have such a great husband. I picked a good one, I do believe. I can not express how much it meant that he would hold off on his school work (because it's piled up high right now) and take Aiden for the day so I could just have some free time all to myself. I love that he loves spending time with Aiden. He's such a good, patient Dad, and it's evident because Aiden loves him so much.
Thank you Thomas, for letting me be "free" today.

Another thought I would have: How can put this event in my blog?
If only you still lived in Bothell - - then you could have walked over to my house for a visit while you were locked out. :) I think it's awesome you made the most of it. :)
