Here's a fun story...
One of my favorite all-time college adventures started late on a spring night while hanging at home with my "Grs" at Mountain View Apartments. Isn't it funny how most great adventures in college start late at night?
Anyway, there we were sitting one night just minding our own business when there was a knock on our door. And in walks a guy named Stu. He simply says, "Hey ladies. Wanna go to Powell?"
We thought he was joking...he was that kind of guy. We joked around about it for a minute and then he said, "You think I am kidding, but I'm totally serious. Look...look out the window and see. We're READY to go!"
So we all peeked out the door and looked out on the road and sitting in front of our apartment was....a truck, followed by a big ski boat, and another truck pulling a trailer of wave runners.
Holy crap! He wasn't kidding. So 10 minutes later and after I'm sure a few squeals we marched out the door with our bags in stow, ready for a complete impromptu trip to Lake Powell with two guys we kind of knew and several we didn't know at all.
I remember walking out the door and seeing the look on the faces of our good neighbors in the apartment complex....they were wondering what we were up to. They could obviously see the trucks and boats out there. What in the heck were we doing on a school night with four strangers!!?
Buh-bye little Mountain View friends I thought...we're outta here!
We put our things in the back of the truck and were on our way. We left Ephraim at 11 pm and arrive at the Lake around 4 in the morning. I don't remember exactly where we slept, but it must have been in the truck, because when it was light outside we went and found the houseboat and moved on in to get that PAR-TAY started.
"Sweet Nectar" is what it was; at least that was one of Stu's coined phrases of the trip. That, and this song...Cecelia by S&G. We played this tune many a time, and that's when I got hooked and decided it needed to be a permanent Lake Powell summer song, no doubt.
This boat was totally pimped out with the nicest things. Plush carpet and furniture, big screen TV, gourmet kitchen...this boat rocked. I wish I had a scanner so I could upload some of the pictures...they are absolute gems.
We partied (in a good, wholesome way, of course :) for four days watching movies, fishing, and taking a few dips in the water...it was still pretty cold in April.
I'm not sure if I love this song because it's such a fun song, or because of the memories associated with it. I'd have to say it's mostly because of the memories associated with it. I love my Grs...we've been bosom friends ever since our college days, and I'm so grateful to have them in my life!
To my peeps...MC, Emily, Mer and Amy...I love you all so much. Thanks is in order to Glen Dickman, the owner of the houseboat for hosting our little spring get away...and thanks to my Grs, for this memory and so many others!
