Favorite Summer Song - #5

This cool cat is my Uncle Jed.

He rocks. He's smart....he works for IBM, but he's definitely not your geeky computer programmer type that has long hair in a pony tail and wears tube socks with Teva sandals.

He's as cool as they come...in so many ways! Who else can do the Stray Cat dance, do the "Blind Man" off the back of the houseboat, come up with the most creative home-made Christmas gifts every year, say the Pledge of Allegiance for a "talent" at the family Christmas party, and create the coolest Batman movie ever back in the day with those silent movie projectors...even before the day of VHS video recorders!?

One year at Lake Powell Jed took Cody and I out for an early morning ski. There's nothing like it...jumping into the water and getting that shock from the cool morning water.

There's nothing better than skiing on water that is like glass and then cutting across the water while you're cruising down through a red-rock canyon. Ahhh. Heaven. (Yes, in case you're wondering...I was a great skier not so long ago!)

So one summer we were out for our early morning ski and Jed popped in a cassette tape. (Yes, this totally dates me and makes me feel so old! Cassette tapes? They sound so ancient. I was probably about 13 around this time.)

And we rocked out to "Bad Medicine" by one of my favorite 80s bands, Bon Jovi. We listened to it over and over again, and decided to call it our water-skiing theme song. For years to follow we made sure we had the theme song with us when we went out in the boat.

I think one of the reasons why I thought this was so great was because my Dad has never been a fan of loud music, so whenever he would take us out in the boat he hated having that "junk" playing, so we had to keep the volume low. And what fun is that? Like, whatever...Dad.

I loved that Jed would rock out with us and blast the music loud. And that memory...of early morning water skiing at Lake Powell runs through my mind when I hear our theme song of 1988.

Tomorrow's song...get ready for a story about one of the craziest things I did in college. I can't wait to reminisce!
