Possibly Moving to Canada.....

So our holiday wasn't even HALF as fun as Alison's. In fact, it was really just kind of blah.

Our lame weekend started on Thursday night. Thomas decided we needed fireworks to really enjoy the festivities. To which I agreed. He returned home with two big tubs full of them. Aiden was ecstatic. We went outside and lit the first one. Watched the fuse burn and then nothing. Lit a second one...nothing. Lit a third one...still nothing.

Brought them in the house and noticed they aren't fireworks at all; just stupid noise makers. You don't light the fuse...you pull it. It makes a popping noise and out comes shredded paper.

Seattle has no tolerance for fireworks; so the stores can't sell REAL fireworks. How stupid is that.

On the morning of the 4th Thomas was up and out the door at 7 am to play rugby. He's been begging me all year to come watch him play so I finally decided to go. However, Aiden went to bed late...so late in fact I'm not even going to tell you what time it was for fear you'll think I'm a terrible Mom! So I had to drag Aiden out of bed to go to the rugby field. Felt guilty about that.

Got home, rushed over to the Stake Pancake Breakfast...which was over already. Decided to go find a Dennys or IHOP...couldn't find one. By this time it was 10:45 am. Aiden bless his heart was trying to be good but was starving, tired and insisting on pancakes for breakfast. Found a McDonalds, but they had already stopped serving breakfast.

Great, now what's our plan. Phone book had an IHOP listed not too far from where we were at. We made our way there and couldn't find it. Went home and made our own damn pancake breakfast at 11:45.

And to make matters worse, my family left for Lake Powell today, so I had that to sulk about too.

Thankfully, the day did improve. We finished the day off with having some friends over for a BBQ and then went to another friend's house to watch the fireworks. That part was actually fun...Seattle has two big fireworks shows and we were high enough on a hill to see both - the show at Elliott Bay and the big display over Lake Union.

Next year, the 4th of July better improve or I'm moving to Canada.

You come to our house next 4th! We won't provide the pancakes though! I laughed at that one. I quit feeling guilty about my children's bed time a long time ago. My kids went to bed on the 4th at midnight.

I have to admit that I was pretty upset when I first started reading your post saying you were thinking about moving. But then realizing Thomas still has a couple years of school left I felt good and knew you were only joking.

Sorry you had an uneventful 4th. We were thinking about going to Pancake Breakfast too, but we all woke up too late we just made our own. It's funny how much kids love pancakes. They are actually the one breakfast that Hyrum will eat well... everything else he just picks at. What we do to please our kiddos!

My 4th was crappy ....next year we HAVE to go to Alison's ! I loved your blog chatting about Gunnison. I can imagine how sweet it must have been to grow up there. I have my routine when I go there. It always includes LUNDS ...or whatever it is now. See you soon :)

How hilarious is that? I would never have thought that Seattle would not have fireworks. I am sorry that you missed the spectacular fireworks, pancake dinner and your family...just think, maybe you should visit Utah for the 4th next year. We love fireworks here!!!
