Words of Wisdom, by Aiden T. Bore

Recent conversations with Aiden...

At the dinner table
Me: Aiden, would you mind sharing some of that water with me, please?
Aiden: No, Mom. Children don't share with Mommys.
Me: Who do children share with then?
Aiden: Only Daddys.

In the car when I'm cussing at a driver who went out of turn at the 4-way stop
Aiden: Chillax Mommy!

In the car when I'm mad at Thomas because he's not paying attention while driving
Aiden: Daddy, say sorry to Mommy. Now, Mommy, say sorry to Daddy.

Outside on the sidewalk with the hose and water running down the sidewalk
Me: Aiden, why don't you come in and eat dinner.
Aiden: No, I"m too busy to eat.
Me: How come?
Aiden: I'm watering my garden.

At the dinner table. Thomas is helping Aiden say the blessing on the food
Aiden: ...saying the prayer
Aiden: silence
Thomas: Aiden, are you going to finish the prayer?
Aiden: I CAN NOT say long prayers, Daddy. Too many words.

Any place where Aiden has toys or something to keep him occupied and he doesn't want me to bother him.
Me: ...not saying anything, just lingering around by him
Aiden: Mommy, I don't need you. Go back to your work.

Laying on the floor in the family room having a family sleep over
Aiden: Talking, talking, talking. Won't stop talking. (hmm, wonder where who he gets this from.)
Me: Aiden, it's time to go to sleep. Stop talking and be quiet.
Aiden: More talking
Me: Aiden, let's zip our lips shut. See, zip your lips like this and throw the key away.
Aiden: A few seconds of silence
Aiden: Mommy, I can not zip my lips. My zipper broke.

While hiking around at the beach
Aiden: Mommy, I'm hungry. I have no energies.

Going for a walk past Stells, our favorite burger joint and the church that Aiden's friend, Maggie attends
Aiden: Watch me, Mom. (pointing to Stell's business sign)
Aiden: S-T-E-L-L-S spells...Stells!
Me: Yes, Aiden that spells Stells. Very good job. You know your letters!

Aiden: Stop, let's spell the letters, otay Mom?
Me: Okay, you tell me what those letters are.
Aiden: F-I-R-S-T
Aiden: F-R-E-E
Aiden: M-E-T-H-O-D-I-S-T
Aiden: Spells...Maggie's church!

Walking up to me with one side of his pants pulled down past his hip, exposing the back side of his hip
Aiden: Look Mom, I'm testy.
Me: You're what?
Aiden: I'm testy Mom!
(I have no clue what he's talking about.)
The next day, he does it again. Still, no clue what he's talking about.
The next day he says it again. This time I clue in. He's saying, "Look Mom, I'm sexy."

When Aiden doesn't want to do something he'll often say it's too scary or he's too scared. We try to reinforce that he is brave and that he can do it. This is a product of our teaching.
Me: Aiden, will you come and help me husk this corn?
Aiden: No. You brave Mommy. You do it all yourself!

We were playing at the park and Aiden was not being obedient. When we got home he had to sit in timeout. We had a little visit afterwards and talked about why it's important for children to obey their parents. I told him if he didn't obey, I would have to send the tickets for A Day With Thomas back and we wouldn't go.
Me: You don't want me to send the tickets back, do you?
Aiden: Nope. I will obey indeed....and listen!

Our friends had a baby recently and we watched their son for a few days while they were in the hospital. Aiden and Issac had a great time. After Issac went home we were talking about how Issac was a big brother now.
Thomas: Aiden, would you like Mommy to have a baby in her tummy?
Aiden: (looking at Thomas like...are you crazy?) Silly Daddy. You can't eat babies!

Reading stories and getting ready for bed
Me: Aiden, guess how much I love you.
Aiden: Mommy, I love you 40 weeks much!

Our handsome little guy is getting so big and growing up so fast. Conversations like this tug at the heart and are a reminder of how precious children are and what a blessing it is to be a mother.

P.S. We have to give a shout out to our friend and photographer Jen, who recently took these adorable photos of Aiden. You can check her out at The Perfect Pic.

Great photos too! Aiden looks so handsome and sooooo grown-up! I love the RED LIPS! I had to do a double take though when I saw him at church on Sunday wearing this shirt. Hyrum has the SAME ONE! While I was looking for Hyrum as he was running around in the chapel after Sacrament Meeting ended I saw Thomas and thought he was carrying Hyrum! Too funny!

Kids say the darndest things! Aiden is such a cutie! He will get a kick out of them too if you save those for him to see when he's older.

Hey- "Tombore" left a comment on my blog about the Palmdale 2nd Ward and I thought this was the easiest way to communicate back.
We left Palmdale in 2005, moving to Springville, UT. The Millers preceded us by by 6 months and live just 3 miles away in Mapleton. Giffords moved to the west side of Palmdale and Sommers are in San Diego.

(I love your photos, you are very talented! Great blog too.)
