Wedding Weekend with Floods and a Troll

My baby brother is married. It just seems like yesterday when I was at the hospital and watched as my mom was rolled out of the delivery room and I saw this new baby brother lying on her chest. And now...I find it hard to believe he's old enough to be the man of the house.

Travis and Meagan were married in the Manti Temple on Friday, August 2 and it couldn't have been a more perfect day. For a minute I thought it was going to rain a little bit and secretly I was glad...at least someone in my family would have been able to share the sorrow of a soggy wedding day with me.

But alas, they were saved from rain and so only I can feel the pain of a wedding day with abundant rain. I can't believe that's what I think about after all these years. I just can't let it go.

Anyway, the day was perfect and I am elated that Meagan is now one of my sisters. She's the perfect person for my brother, and now that she's part of our family it feels complete. I'm so lucky that both of my brothers picked such talented, beautiful and wonderful wives that we love and are so happy to embrace into our family.

The kids enjoyed lots of time with Nannie Diane. Here they are reading stories before bedtime. They loved having Grandpa fix them alphabet pancakes for breakfast. My Dad is still the best alphabet pancake maker around.

And of course, we can't forget about our little flood. The little rascals flooded the front flower bed one afternoon. I went outside to find the entire front flower bed completely covered in water, with a cascade of water falling over into the windowsill. It was nearly full of water when I found it. We had an emergency bucket party and had to scoop the water out before it flooded one of the bedrooms.

We later found out the kids were going over the neighbor's house and flooding their garden and yard as well. Oops. Since we didn't have an electric fence to keep them in the yard we got the next best thing....a Troll. My brother has a camo suit he uses for hunting and it was the perfect thing to disguise him as a troll. One night the Troll came out and scared all of those kids and they didn't go back over to the neighbor's yard the rest of the week. In fact, the Troll was our obedience bribe all week. Those kids whipped right into shape when we said the Troll was coming to get them. If you need a Troll in your neighborhood, let me know.

But the late nights-no naps-flooding frenzy-wedding party week came quickly to an end all too soon and now...can't wait until Christmas to be home with them once again.

Love your post! Pictures were fun to see. I need that troll to control my daughter. Looked like a fun fun weekend. Wish I could have been there but it's too much for me to get there with my load. One of these times it would be fun to get together. Thanks for sharing!

Isn't it supposed to be good luck to have rain on your wedding? It rained on our wedding day but held off (barely) until we finished pics. Made for an amazing background with the white temple against a dark sky. I love the troll story! Too funny. Miss you guys!

Too funny! You always crack me up! I love your blog! I'm glad that you're able to find the humor in all of life's not so funny moments.

I feel your pain on rainy weddings. Although it didn't rain on our wedding day, it did on the reception day. They were a week apart. It was down pouring! We were late getting to the reception since I was too scared to leave the house in my beautiful white dress and wanted to wait the rain out. Then we just had to go for it since it wasn't letting up and so Jeff ran out to the car first to open the door for me and my Mom's dog jumped in the car and got her muddy paws all over the seat. So I had to ride in the back. When we got to the reception we didn't even know where to go since it was supposed to be all outdoors and in the time that we were at home changing the whole thing got moved inside. Yeah, really tight and not good. Oh well, I guess it was a good thing that the rain also scared away a lot of our guest because had everyone arrived that RSVPed it would have been super crowded in that little room. So I'm with you, I'd like a to re-do my wedding and reception and especially get better photos...don't even get me started on this one. Oh well!
