Breezeway

While waiting for my turn to board the airplane last week I noticed the airline was making a really big deal about its "Breezeway" line.

"We're now boarding flight 1011 with service to Salt Lake City. For our elite customers, please use the Breezeway at any time. We're also boarding zones six and seven at this time...."

So what's the big deal with the Breezeway, I wondered? The bottom line is that you've got the boarding area. They have simply rolled out a little rug. Not a fancy rug. Not even a red velvet carpet. Just a plain blue rug that looks like any other rug you'd find in a post office, a bank or a school.

So they put this rug down and separate it from the rest of the boarding area with a rope and stanchion and THIS is only for the elite customers. Like, does it really make passengers feel that much more special because they get to walk across a post office rug and hand the attendant their boarding pass?

My boss only flies first class and I know for a fact he doesn't buy a first class ticket for the perk of walking on a post office rug before he boards the plane. He lays the cash down so that he can ride in comfort. Recline his chair and sleep. Have enough leg and elbow room to sit comfortably and work while en route.

My boarding zone happened to be in zone two, and they started with zone eight, so I had quite a while to just sit and observe this. And you know what? No one walked on the post office rug. They all used the regular line. And that's when I got to thinking about the fact that I don't need a rug to make me feel special, loved or appreciated.

I already know what I need to know...

I am surrounded in love by a fabulous husband and son. I'm a daughter of a mother and father who have been my greatest cheerleaders and a granddaughter of four grandparents who are my loudest cheering section. Above all, I know I am a daughter of a loving Heavenly Father and that true joy and happiness in this life are based on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

No rug or special boarding privileges will ever compare to the happiness the gospel brings and knowing who I belong to.

You are so true!!! May I use this 'breezeway' story in my next talk? This will be perfect. I love reading your blog...each story is so insightful!!

How sweet...You are so lucky to have such a good boy! Remember this often! We're counting down the days until we CAN go to the park. At this point, my kids wouldn't care if there were slides, swings, or sand...as long as they could be running free outside, they would be thrilled!
