As July 5 approaches, I am trying very hard not to think about it.
You see, it's going to be a very depressing week next week when everyone in my family leaves for Lake Powell on July 5. And to make matters worse, both the Dyreng and Madsen families are going to be there around the same time. It's really depressing.
But, setting those feeling aside, Lake Powell has given me many, many great summer memories, and in fact, you'll find over the next few days as we finish up the summer song series, that many of my stories are associated with this great place.
I wouldn't want it any other way. After all, it's been our favorite vacation spot since I was 8 years old, so of course there are lots of memories and stories to tell!
My #7 favorite summer song is Last Kiss by Pearl Jam.
Now, listening to the lyrics on this song can get a little depressing, actually. But it's the tune...the music that I have always loved, from the first moment I heard this song.
I think I was driving around in Dallas, actually, when I heard this song and I thought to myself, "I have got to get this!"
About a week later I was at Lake Powell and I remember popping this into the CD player while we were catching some rays on top of the house boat. When the tune started, my mom recognized it and was pleased to say, "I know this song...!"
You see, Pearl Jam just did a remake of a classic from my mom's generation.
And us kids thought it was so cool that our Mom was actually listening to, and ENJOYING (that's the key word here, people) music from Pearl Jam.
We listened to that song over and over again on that trip.
So thanks, Eddie Vedder, for spanning the age gap and creating a memorable bonding experience with the parents.

I've never been to Lake Powell before but everyone that I know that has agrees that it a wonderful place. Sorry you can't be there with your family this year.
Oh, I am sorry that you will miss out with your family's trip to Lake Powell...at least you have a lot of fun memories of spending time with them.
