Favorite Summer Song - #8

Today's favorite summer song is a fun little jig that reminds me of Canada.

Last year we went for a visit to Thomas' hometown for the annual Bore Family Reunion. The reunion coincided with "Stirling Days," which is the town's little summer celebration. One of the activities at the celebration was the "Family Dance."

I'll admit - I was a little skeptical about going to the Family Dance. It was late at night...what parents with common sense would allow their kids to be out that late at night.

But oh, I must say, I was completely surprised when I arrived. Let me tell you, the village of Stirling might be small in number, but those people know how to party. And the best part was that families were out there dancing in the street together. Parents. Kids. Grandparents. Friends.

It was the coolest thing. And this song started playing...

The Last Saskatchewan Pirate
(Arrogant Worms)

And let me tell you, Canadians know their music. This song started playing and the crowd went wild. It was the first time I'd heard it, but it obviously was a favorite for many people there. It was the song that picked up the energy of the entire event. People were singing and smiling and for the people who weren't out on the street dancing yet, it got everyone moving.

Unfortunately, we lost our camera last summer and all of my pictures from the reunion were lost forever. But I do have one picture that goes along with this memory. Here's all of us Bores, sporting matching family scarves...we kind of look like pirates a little bit after three days of camping in tents!

So after hearing this song at the Family Dance, it quickly became a favorite, both for the fun little tune and because of the great memories associated with it.

Arrgh!
